Terms of Use
Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of SmartST. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use SmartST.
About SmartST
SmartST is an independent preparation tool for UK doctors applying to specialty training. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to NHS England, Oriel, the GMC, or any Royal College.
The guidance on SmartST is drawn from official NHS and Royal College sources, but it is provided for information only. It is not official, medical, or careers advice — always verify against the official NHS / Royal College sources before acting on anything you read here. Application processes change, and the official source is always authoritative.
Accounts and eligibility
When you create an account, you agree to:
- keep your login credentials secure and confidential;
- provide accurate and up-to-date information;
- take responsibility for all activity that happens under your account.
Email from SmartST
By accepting these terms you agree that SmartST may email you about the service — a welcome message when you join, guidance on getting the most out of SmartST, and occasional updates relevant to your specialty and the application cycle.
You can stop these emails at any time. Every one of them carries an unsubscribe link, and following it stops them straight away — you do not need to be signed in, and you do not have to give a reason. You can also ask us to stop by emailing hello@smartst.co.uk. Either way, it has no effect on your account: everything you have built on SmartST stays exactly as it was.
The emails you cannot turn off are the ones your account depends on — confirming your email address, resetting your password, and similar security and service messages. Those are not marketing, which is why they carry no unsubscribe link.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- misuse the service or use it for any unlawful purpose;
- attempt to breach or circumvent the security of the service;
- scrape, harvest, or bulk-extract content from the service;
- upload or share unlawful, infringing, or otherwise harmful content.
Your content and licence
You retain ownership of the portfolio content and documents you create or upload. You grant SmartST a limited licence to store and process that content solely to provide the service to you — for example, to build, display, and export your portfolio.
Intellectual property
SmartST's own content, its compilation and presentation of guidance, and its branding remain the property of SmartST. Nothing in these terms transfers those rights to you.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of the guidance, the availability of the service, or any particular outcome — including the success of your training application.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SmartST is not liable for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the service. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes and termination
We may update these terms from time to time. The “last updated” date above reflects the current version, and continued use of the service after an update means you accept the revised terms. We may suspend or terminate access to the service where necessary, and you may stop using it and close your account at any time.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any dispute relating to them is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
