How General Practice selection works
GP offers are based on the MSRA ranking alone — no portfolio, no interview and no Selection Centre. Your MSRA result is a single national ranking score, called the Single Transferable Score. Unique to GP and Core Psychiatry, the MSRA score is transferable, meaning if you have an MSRA score from a previous application within the same 12-month recruitment cycle, you can use this score instead of re-sitting.

Provisional — 2026/27 dates are based on last cycle's pattern. NHS England publishes confirmed dates around October 2026.

Applicants make a single application for all available GP ST1 training posts in participating regions. All General Practice Specialty Training (GPST) programmes in the UK are recruited through a national process managed by the GP National Recruitment Office (GPNRO).

Sit MSRA
If you apply only to GP and/or Core Psychiatry, you sit the MSRA in the reserved February window; only if applications exceed the capacity of that sitting are some applicants required to sit in January instead (the January window is otherwise open to all specialties). Your allocated window is confirmed after applications close and cannot be changed, even if you withdraw other applications.
